Details on MSDs costs
For the operator
We can still see what the direct and indirect costs are for an operator.
- Direct costs: They may include medical costs such as consultations, medication, possible surgery and rehabilitation costs. On average, surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome in France costs around €1,500 to €2,000.
- Indirect costs: They may include loss of income due to absence from work or reduced productivity as a result of pain or fatigue.
For the company
In general, carpal tunnel syndrome can result in direct costs to a company, such as compensation for employees, costs for training new workers or costs for purchasing new ergonomic equipment.
It can also result in indirect costs such as absenteeism, loss of productivity and loss of capacity, such as time or quality.
Direct costs range from €100 to €500 per employee per year, whether affected by MSDs or not. Indirect costs have been estimated to be 2 to 7 times the direct costs. The average total cost to a company of treating a single case of carpal tunnel syndrome can therefore vary from a few thousand to tens of thousands of euros, depending on the severity of the case and the associated indirect costs.
